FAQ’s
General:
How long have you been in business?
Matthew Hanks started this business in the early part of
2007. But he operated the same business while in
Texas under the name of SNS Construction for four years
prior to moving here.
Where do you work?
We prefer jobs in the Colorado Springs area and surrounding
communities. However, are willing to travel state
wide if the job is right.
What kind of work do you prefer?
We prefer well-designed, green building focused projects
that are close to home. However, the bigger criterion
for the success of any project is the people involved. Our
main priorities are the people attached to any project.
What is the primary goal of your company?
To help create and focus the desires and needs of the homeowner
into a design that is aesthetically what they want, one
that they can afford, and one that meets all there needs. Then
deliver to them a level of service and craftsmanship that
far exceeds that which they hoped for.
Design:
Can you help with the designs, plans and permit for my job?
Yes our in-house capabilities include design. We
have on staff an architectural designer as well as interior
designers, and vendors that we work closely with to help
customize any type of project from kitchen and bath remodeling
to additions, decks, exteriors, new homes and light commercial
work.
Will you work with plans I already have?
Of course. However, the earlier we can be involved
in the project the better chance we’ll have at designing
something that matches the budget, as well as help consult
on the elements of design which are necessary to look at
from a construction point of view.
Can you help me pick materials and finishes?
Yes, we have lots of resources and vendor relationships
to help clients and designers select materials. This
also gives us an opportunity to point out potential green
alternatives to every day practices of construction and
highlight products that have performed well for previous
clientele.
Estimating:
Do you give free estimates?
Yes, however on larger jobs where detailed estimating
can take many hours, cost consultation will have a fee unless
we are already considered the contractor of choice.
What are “open books”?
In an attempt battle
the stereo-type of the “greasy” contractor, we
are happy to show you where every one of your dollars is
spent. Our estimates show broken down costs for each
item of construction along with our projected overhead and
profit.
Will I get the best price with Peacemaker Design/Build?
Although we consider our pricing to be very competitive,
I’m sure someone out there can always beat us. While
we may not project the lowest initial budget, we are confident
that we provide excellent value in the long run. Our
focus is on helping our clients get the best value, not
necessarily the lowest price.
Contracts:
What type of contract do you use?
Our standard contract is drawn from various sources. It
uses relatively simple terminology and language, and details
terms and conditions of the warranty, change
orders,
and payment schedule. (click to download pdf)
Production:
Do you provide a written job schedule?
Yes. A calendar created in Microsoft Project highlighting
major categories of construction, material delivery dates,
inspections, and payments will be created and updated on
large jobs.
Who will build my job?
At the beginning of the job you will be assigned a project
manager who will also be an acting foreman. He will
lead our guys in performing many of the details of construction.
Do you subcontract some of the work?
Yes. We have developed a very strong team of trusted
tradesman to handle all the licensed trades that we aren’t
qualified to handle (i.e. Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical)
and use other subs to handle some of the more trade specific
areas of construction (i.e. Sheetrock, Concrete, Countertops,
etc.).
